Groin pain arising from the adductor (inner thigh) muscles and tendons.
Overview
Adductor-related groin pain is a common cause of groin pain in athletes, arising from the inner-thigh muscles and their attachment to the pelvis. It responds well to progressive strengthening and load management.
Symptoms
- Pain in the groin / inner thigh
- Pain with kicking, sprinting or changing direction
- Tenderness over the adductor attachment
- Pain with resisted squeezing of the legs
Causes
- Sports with kicking and direction changes
- Sudden increases in load
- Adductor weakness or imbalance
Treatment
- Progressive adductor strengthening
- Load and training modification
- Trunk and hip control work
- Graded return to sport
